IEA Report: Stop Subsidizing Fossil Fuels

If governments want to cut greenhouse gas emissions and power society with renewable energy, they should stop subsidising fossil fuel use. That's one of the central arguments of the International Energy Agency's (IEA) annual World Energy Outlook report, released today.

Given all the efforts to combat climate change over the last two decades, it seems odd that such subsidies still exist. Yet governments around the world paid out $312 billion in fossil fuel subsidies in 2009.
